Longitudinal associations between perceived stress and views on aging: Evidence for reciprocal relations.

چکیده
Views on aging (VoA) are meaningful predictors of well-being, health, cognitive impairment, and mortality. One underlying pathway could be that negative VoA promote perceived stress. However, little is known about the role stress perceptions as an antecedent personal VoA. In this study, we therefore investigated longitudinal reciprocal association between three established constructs representing VoA: (a) subjective age; (b) attitude toward own (ATOA); (c) aging-related cognitions comprising social loss, physical decline, continuous growth. We also examined whether these associations moderated by chronological age. Two adjacent measurement occasions (2014 2017) German Ageing Survey with 4,588 individuals aged 40 95 years were analyzed. Cross-lagged models controlling for at baseline, age, depressive symptoms, education, gender, region residence, year individual study entry revealed significant relations For five indicators, from to subsequent was same magnitude reversed pathway. With increasing ATOA less strongly associated perceptions. Moreover, impact higher older age weaker advancing conclusion, trend in prior research conceptualize midlife old exclusively a consequence needs reconsideration, levels seem risk factor favorable (PsycInfo Database Record 2021 APA, all rights reserved).

Antecedent-consequent relations of perceived control to health and social support: longitudinal evidence for between-domain associations across adulthood.
OBJECTIVES To examine antecedent-consequent relations of perceived control to health and social support across adulthood and old age. METHODS We applied (multigroup) change score models to two waves of data collected 9 years apart from 6,210 participants of the Midlife in the United States survey (MIDUS, 24-75 years at baseline). We used composite measures of perceived control (personal maste...
متن کاملLongitudinal and reciprocal associations between coparenting conflict and father engagement.
The major goal of the present study was to examine the reciprocal and longitudinal associations between coparenting conflict and father engagement with children during the early childhood years. Using data from the Early Childhood Longitudinal Survey--Birth Cohort (N = 3600), the findings supported the hypothesis that father engagement at 9 months has a significant effect on coparenting conflic...
متن کاملAssociations between air pollution and perceived stress: the Veterans Administration Normative Aging Study
BACKGROUND There is mixed evidence suggesting that air pollution may be associated with increased risk of developing psychiatric disorders. We aimed to investigate the association between air pollution and non-specific perceived stress, often a precursor to development of affective psychiatric disorders. METHODS This longitudinal analysis consisted of 987 older men participating in at least o...
متن کاملReciprocal, longitudinal associations among adolescents' negative feedback-seeking, depressive symptoms, and peer relations.
This study examined reciprocal associations among adolescents' negative feedback-seeking, depressive symptoms, perceptions of friendship quality, and peer-reported social preference over an 11-month period. A total of 478 adolescents in grades 6-8 completed measures of negative feedback-seeking, depressive symptoms, friendship quality, global-self-esteem, and social anxiety at two time points. ...
متن کاملReciprocal relations between kinetic curves
We study coupled irreversible processes. For linear or linearized kinetics with microreversibility, ẋ=Kx, the kinetic operator K is symmetric in the entropic inner product. This form of Onsager’s reciprocal relations implies that the shift in time, exp(Kt), is also a symmetric operator. This generates the reciprocity relations between the kinetic curves. For example, for the Master equation, if...
